Dry Stacking Your Business Walls
See the wall in the photos below? They are called dry-stack stone walls.
And here is what is really cool about these.
They are created without mortar.
Essentially the builder uses a small sledgehammer to knock the stones into place, one carefully-placed stone at a time.
Building a business is exactly the same. You have to choose your rocks carefully so they can fit together cohesively.
When you look at other entrepreneurs and businesses, you probably see HUGE stone walls. They have blogs and email funnels and sales pages and fully-fleshed-out service lines and programs.
And yay for them.
Just remember, everyone gets there one stone at a time.
The key is this: make sure you are choosing rocks that fit together.
Here’s what I mean.
If you are currently designing a signature service or program that – let’s just say for the sake of example – teaches people how to find clients on LinkedIn, then what are all of the rocks that you need to stack to create that ONE wall?
- What needs to go into your offering? Your sales process? Your marketing?
- Do you need to make templates, scripts, videos, worksheets, and so on that teach people about LinkedIn?
- Do you need a series of LinkedIn-related blog posts with free opt-in and an email series?
These stones should all fit together cohesively. They should all be related to your LinkedIn course.
They make up one of your business walls
Just keep focusing on stacking one stone on top of the other to build a complete wall before you move on to building your next wall.
Just throwing rocks around
Here’s what I often see instead.
We’ll take an example entrepreneur who helps busy moms: “Oh, I’ll create a meal plan organizer and I’ll launch a service to coach moms to be better parents and I’ll create a paid course that teaches mom to be organized and I’ll write an email series that shows them how to sneak vegetables into their picky kid’s diet.”
This is not a careful builder of a wall. This is a person who is just chucking rocks around their backyard.
See the difference?
What are you doing?
Building a carefully crafted wall of stones that fit together cohesively?
Or hurling rocks around?
